Why we closed Codixie Cloud
Codixie started as a fun project. Whenever I learned a new framework or programming language, I would build a todo app or something similar. One day my friend Mikhail suggested we make not just another todo, but a todo for programmers — a place to store code snippets. After about six months of straightforward work, the project was ready and launched. There was no commercial plan, no marketing budget, no business model at all. We just built it for fun.
Two years later, with the rapid rise of AI and everything that came with it, I no longer see the point in keeping the site running and maintaining it. Commercially it was a failure — we didn't find enough users willing to pay for it. But as an experience, I truly enjoyed building and maintaining it. In the age of LLMs, a project like this probably doesn't have a reason to exist anymore. But thank you for using it.
I've rebuilt Codixie as a local Electron app, so now your data stays on your computer. This domain will remain active until November 2026, so you have time to download everything. If you miss the deadline, email me at vdmitry.log@gmail.com and I'll send you your data.
Thank you for being with us. See you on the next projects. (* ^ ω ^)
What happens to my data?
You can download all your snippets, tags, and comments from the main page. The export file is fully compatible with the local version of Codixie — just use the "Import project" feature.
What's next?
We created a local version of Codixie. You can use it for free on Linux, macOS, and Windows. The code is open source under the MIT license.
